Nerdy Girls’ Tribute to Chadwick Boseman

Staying Safe

The Nerdy Girls join the millions of folks who remain heartbroken about the recent passing of Mr. Chadwick Boseman from colon cancer at the age of 43. From Jackie Robinson to the Black Panther, King T’Challa, Mr. Boseman played Black icons and told beautiful stories through his art. Our thoughts are with his grieving loved ones.

We wanted to share a #TBT today written by the fantastic Nerdy Guest, Dr. Eve Bloomgarden, a co-founder of our partner organization, Impact (impact4hc.com). This Dear Pandemic post from June is meant to remind our community that even though COVID-19 continues, it is largely SAFE to see your doctors for critical checkups, especially cancer screenings, like colonoscopies and mammograms. It’s also important to seek medical advice for any unusual symptoms you might be experiencing – doctors are ready to help, whether through virtual visits (see yesterday’s Dear Pandemic telemedicine post, link below!) or in-person appointments.

We also recommend reading this powerful post from our dear colleague and author of “Ask an Epidemiologist” in Psychology Today, Dr. Briana Mezuk. In this post linked below, Dr. Mezuk shares her personal experience with colon cancer and how she has experienced Mr. Boseman’s death through such a personal lens.

Finally, linked below is a piece from the New York Times that discusses colon cancer and the increasing incidence among young people in the wake of Mr. Boseman’s tragic death.

Wakanda Forever,
The Nerdy Girls
