What to do if you are exposed to someone with symptoms of or confirmed COVID-19

Testing and Contact Tracing

A: Our colleagues @IMPACT4HC provide great guidance in this infographic.

Key takeaways:

*Get tested for COVID-19 if you have been exposed.* Vaccinated, unvaccinated, symptomatic, asymptomatic – everyone should follow up with a test to prevent the spread of infection to others.

*If you have an exposure, go for the PCR test.*

PCR tests do a better job of ruling out infection. A rapid antigen test is more likely to “miss” a true case of COVID-19 when compared to a PCR test. Rapid tests are still useful in other situations, but require a follow up PCR test in some scenarios.

*Vaccination decreases COVID-19 quarantine burdens.* Unvaccinated people need to quarantine for 14 days after the exposure. Vaccinated people should wear a mask in public settings and around high-risk household contacts until they receive a negative PCR test. Vaccinated people with a negative test should still watch for symptoms for 14 days after the exposure, but do not need to quarantine unless they become symptomatic.

Stay Safe. Stay Sane.
